The mission of Distance University is to teach young athletes the basics of commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship, character, and self-discipline through running, primarily middle and long distance running.
Our goal is to teach the athletes how to enjoy running through positive reinforcement, goal setting, and competition. We look at running as a life-long sport, one that can help young people handle the challenges in life, and make them successful in anything they wish to accomplish.
Track practices will be 3 days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30. We also have occasional Practices on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 AM. Formal practices will begin again in January.
Our practices will be either at Valley Vista High School or at Gateway Park in El Mirage, where we focus on our endurance runs. Attending as many practices as possible will greatly enhance your conditioning.
Cross country will begin in September. We will be practicing at Gateway Park and at Thunderbird Park for hill work. Practices will be 2-3 times a week.
